Brenda Helen Banks (BFA), Glass Artist and Painter
Education:
2008 - Bachelor of Fine Arts, Quay School of Art, Whanganui (majored in Glass, with a second major in Painting).
I continued my studies in Glass Design and Production at the Whanganui Glass School until 2012 to extend my knowledge in the
different technical skills in glass that would allow me to further explore blown forms, texture, pattern and colour.
Affiliations/Exhibitions:
I am a member of NZSAG (NZ Society of Artists in Glass) and The Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington.
I was a member of the Wanganui Glass Group and have exhibited several times in the Shop Window Exhibition, Victoria Street, Whanganui during the Whanganui Festival of Glass.
My work is represented at Kura Gallery, 19 Allen Street, Wellington and The Academy of Fine Arts Gallery, 1 Queens Wharf, Wellington.
Artist Statement:
My work consists of a variety of glass processes such as casting, slumping, solid and blown glass forms.
The conceptual framework for my work is based on personal journeys, the surrounding landscape and landforms I see on my journeys, the wilful destruction and environmental
changes to the land caused by man, and the earths textural layers caused by seismic and volcanic activity. My current work is a series of paintings in oil 'Landforms of New Zealand'.
