Zimmerman Art Gallery

Founded in 2010, ZIMMERMAN exhibits contemporary artworks by established and emerging New Zealand artists.
There are no steps to climb, entry is free, and the doors are open 11am to 3pm every day, including weekends (closed public holidays).
ZIMMERMAN features two main gallery spaces. The exhibition gallery, which can be viewed through the front windows, is devoted to each month's new exhibition.
Directly behind the exhibition gallery is a larger space, in which ZIMMERMAN displays a changing selection of works by each artist ZIMMERMAN represents.
Local artists represented by ZIMMERMAN include Naga Tsutsumi, Fran Dibble and renowned bronze sculptor Paul Dibble.

This month, from 1 to 30 November, ZIMMERMAN is featuring Barely contained, a series of new paintings on canvas by Wellington based artist, Elspeth Shannon.

Artist Statement: "I have always been inspired by 'things botanical', so it’s unsurprising that this current series has veered towards a loose abstract gathering of flower and leaf like forms.
The cyclical nature of plants could be likened to inspiration - it starts with a seed, grows rapidly, buds, blooms (often in glorious abandoned profusion), then gradually withers, but not before throwing out even more seeds to renew the cycle over again.
It's this constant state of flux I've endeavoured to capture."
